SUSTAINABILITY

CONTRIBUTE WITH CONCRETE ACTIONS TO THE INTEGRITY OF THE PLANET,
THE COMMUNITY AND FUTURE GENERATIONS

OUR ACTIONS

We use organic and regenerative practices to improve the fertility and structure of the soil, increasing its resilience to climate change and its ability to retain water. We enrich the ecosystem and promote the biodiversity of our land. To reduce our impact on the environment and the depletion of soil, water and air, we monitor our use of resources and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Towards zero waste.

WATER

Cover crops: we grow cover crops that we mow in order to protect the soil from the sun and prevent water evaporation.

Keyline: we curb soil erosion by planting our trees along the contours of the hills.

Irrigation: we optimize water use through drip irrigation.

Lake: we irrigate using lake water to limit drinking water consumption.

BIO COMPOST

Teku Kana: a soil conditioner rich in micro-organisms made from forest litter, bran and sugar.

Organic fertiliser: we add whey to our teku kana to create a nutrient-rich fertiliser.

Mulch: we return organic matter to the soil by reintegrating crop residues.

Bio-char: a carbon-rich material with a high capacity to sequester atmospheric co2, derived from the pyrolysis of agricultural plant waste.

ROTATIONAL GRAZING

Our chickens: 160 free-range chickens graze in our olive groves and fertilise the soil.

Mobile henhouses: we constantly move our henhouses to regenerate the soil.

Our eggs: we produce organic eggs which we sell fresh at farmers' markets.

Olive groves: our chickens feed on the larvae of the olive fruit fly, preventing the spread of this pest.

VEGETABLE GARDEN

Seasonality: we respect the natural cycles of vegetables.

Local crops: we favour locally grown, genuine and varied crops

Organic and regenerative methods: we use only organic fertilisers and home-produced compost to prepare, improve and fertilise the soil.

Organic certification: our vegetables are certified by Agricert.

HAPPY ANIMALS

Free: they live freely in the woods of our estate.

New life: we have adopted pigs, goats and donkeys, rescued from intensive farming and slaughter, to give them a second happy life.

Circular economy: fed with organic fodder we produce, their waste fertilises the soil on our estate.

TERRITORY

Expansion of olive groves: today +8000

Native cultivars: we have reintroduced the Madonna dell'Impruneta variety, a local cultivar that had been lost and abandoned a long time.

Fruit orchards: we have planted 120 ancient and native varieties of fruit trees, including plums, pears, apples, cherries, figs and mulberries.

BEEKEEPING

Organic and bee-friendly: bees live in total respect of their biorhythms. No synthetic chemicals are used.

30 Kenya Top bar hives: they replicate the hollow environment of the natural hive and encourage spontaneous bee behaviour. They are stably located in unspoilt areas with spontaneous flora, far from sources of agricultural, industrial or urban pollution.

Biodiversity: bees play an important role in pollinating a wide range of crops and wild plants. They are crucial in sustaining the biodiversity of our land's flora and increasing the resilience of agricultural environments.

PACKAGING

Evo Oil: 60% recycled stainless steel bottle, fully recyclable and reusable. Bag-in-box in FSC cardboard. 75% recycled glass bottle.

Vegan cheese: 100% recyclable packaging, labels made of grass and recycled paper.

Honey, sauces, condiments: 75% recycled glass jar, grass paper labels.

Vegetables: recycled wood crates

Eggs: recycled wood pulp packaging

Eco-bio cosmetics: 100% recyclable packaging made from olive waste paper and recycled cardboard tubes. No plastic parts.

Business cards/communication materials: in crush paper, 30% of which comes from olive processing waste.

MONITORING

Shading: to reduce electricity consumption for cooling offices and laboratories by 50%.

Renewable energy production: zero-emission photovoltaic systems to meet more than 30% of our needs and save more than 2 tonnes of Co2eq.

Towards 0 waste: we produce only 60 grams of waste per kg of unit processed. We will strive to maintain this high performance.

Vivace: from 2022, we measure our environmental impact (energy, water, waste, transport) using Turtle’s ViVACE management software.

PARTNERSHIP

The quality of our work is also enhanced by research, scientific studies and collaborations.

Blekinge Institute of Technology – Sweden

With the help of the Blekinge Institute's Master Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability, we developed an action plan to achieve environmental, social and economic sustainability at Fattoria Triboli.

Tuscany Environment Foundation

We support the Tuscany Environment Foundation in its initiatives to protect the environment and enhance our region.

Worldrise – No Plastic More Fun

We are a plastic free farm. We adhere to Worldrise's No Plastic More Fun project, which involves eliminating the use of plastic.

Good practices in circular economy

We have submitted our best practices in circular economy to be included in UNI/TR 11821 and to be proposed at ISO level for international standardisation projects.
